Walking Dead T01: Passé Décomposé Robert Kirkman

Walking Dead T01: Passé Décomposé Robert Kirkman

Okay, okay, écoute! So, picture this: Me, sipping my café au lait, and suddenly I'm thinking about zombies. Not just any zombies, mind you. We're talking about the OG, the crème de la crème of undead angst: Robert Kirkman's "Walking Dead," specifically Tome 1: Passé Décomposé (Days Gone Bye for you non-Francophones!).

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Zombies? Encore? Haven't we seen enough?" And you'd be right! But this ain't your average brain-munching flick. This is where it all started for the comic book series that spawned a billion spin-offs, video games, and enough merchandise to fill the Louvre. I'm pas kidding!

Rick Grimes: Wakey Wakey, World's Decaying

Our hero, Rick Grimes, wakes up in a hospital bed. Post-apocalypse. Talk about a bad day! Imagine waking up with a hangover and zombies outside. Double merde!

The world has gone completely to the dogs, or rather, to the walking corpses. Turns out, while Rick was busy taking a petit nap, the zombie apocalypse decided to throw a party. A party where everyone is invited... as dinner.

Honestly, who even invents a zombie apocalypse? What kind of party planner does that? "And for the grand finale... hordes of undead! Don't forget your cervelle protectors!"

Meet Your New Undead Overlords

Now, these aren't your athletic, parkour-loving zombies. These are the slow, shambling kind. But don't underestimate them! They're relentless, like a French tax collector. And they have numbers! A beaucoup of them!

The art style in this initial volume is fantastic. Black and white, gritty, like watching an old French film noir... except with more guts. Tony Moore's artwork perfectly captures the hopelessness and the sheer, unadulterated terror of the situation.

Rick has to navigate this nightmare world, find his family, and learn to shoot zombies in the face. All while wearing a sheriff's uniform, which, let's be honest, probably smells awful after a few days of zombie slaying. Talk about vieux!

More Than Just Brains and Gore

What makes "Walking Dead" so compelling (and Passé Décomposé in particular) is that it’s not just about the zombies. It's about the humans. How they react, how they survive, and how they sometimes become worse than the undead themselves.

It asks big questions. Like, what would you do? Would you steal all the good cheese from the abandoned grocery store? (Okay, maybe that's just me). But seriously, it's about morality, sacrifice, and the enduring human spirit... even if that spirit is covered in zombie jus.

So, next time you're looking for a good read, and you're feeling a little sombre, pick up "Walking Dead T01: Passé Décomposé." Just don't blame me if you start checking under your bed for walkers.

And remember, mes amis, always aim for the head! À bientôt!
